Poconos Camping

RV Camping in the PoconosRV camping in the

Poconos Mountain is found in Monroe and Pike counties in northeastern Pennsylvania. The communities of Mount Pocono, Brodheadsville, Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg play a vital role in serving campers from all over the United States. Most RV campgrounds are family-oriented with luxury amenities. RV parks have vehicle size limits, although it’s not difficult to find 40- and 50-foot site accommodations.

Family Camping

In the northern Pocono Mountains is the Countryside Family Campgrounds, which offers access to a wide range of activities from shopping to fishing. The park serves primarily RV and tent campers. The park is a full-service facility with pool, playground, miniature golf and store. WT Family Campgrounds is a full-service facility for RVers who like their amenities no farther than the edge of their campsite. There is a heated pool, camp store, miniature golf course, planned children’s activities, horseback riding, paintball skirmish course and snowboarding in the winter.

Delaware Water Gap

At the Delaware Water Gap is the pet-friendly Delaware Gap Water/Pocono Mountain KOA with access to 40 miles of the Delaware River that wind along wood-lined shores and under high bluffs. The park emphasizes its services to RV campers. Adventurous children and parents can kayak and raft on the water or hike through the woods to Bushkill Falls. Mountain Vista Campground is just a few minutes’ drive from the Delaware Water Gap and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The park can accommodate big rigs.

Rugged Campers

The 1,306-acre Big Pocono State Park leading to Camelback Mountain is a leading destination for RV and tent campers. The mountain’s summit offers expansive views of Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. The park’s leading activities are hiking the North Trail suitable for experienced hikers. The park also permits horseback riding, hunting and fishing. Mountain bicycling enthusiasts who like challenging trails will find them at the 28-acre Jim Thorpe Camping Resort. The park features endless mountain bike and hiking trails throughout the campground. The facility also features a grocery store and swimming pools.

Mixed Campground

While some parks cater strictly to the RV enthusiast, many offer sites for RVers, tent campers and cabins or cottages for people without camping equipment. Hemlock Campground and Cottages in the heart of the Poconos has all three accommodations for large RV groups that may require different types of services. Campsites are equipped with picnic table, fire ring and hookups, while noncamping guests benefit from cottages featuring a television, stove and full-size refrigerator. The 90-acre 300-site Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort off Route 6 also provides accommodations for your noncamping buddies.

RVs Only

Some RV owners appreciate the company of other RVers to exchange the latest tips in RV camping. 81-80 RV Park and Campground at Mountaintop offers 75 sites strictly for recreational vehicles up to 50 feet. The same goes for Chestnut Lake Campground in Brodheadsville, where 32 sites are reserved exclusively for RVs, including the big rigs. source : Poconos Camping

poconos ski resorts

Camelback, The largest ski area in the Poconos

The Poconos in northeastern Pennsylvania might conjure images of lazy lakeside lounging and hiking around hemlock-scented forests, but this area has much more to offer than just warm-weather pursuits. Come winter, Camelback Ski Resort in Tannersville provides a highly suitable set of conditions for all kinds of snow-themed activities.

The largest ski area in the Poconos, Camelback is home to 33 trails and 13 lifts, all lighted to allow for night skiing. This resort is capable of hauling 18,600 people up the mountain per hour, it receives 50 inches of snowfall per year, and to make sure everything is as satisfactory as possible, snowmakers take care of filling in the blanks with all the fresh powdery stuff it takes for true ski-worthiness.

And skiing isn't the only thing to do; snowboarding has taken the spotlight as the hottest new activity at Camelback. Take lessons if you've never done it before, and then try your hand at riding the specially designed half-pipe. You'll feel the joy of being on the cutting edge of adventure sports as you zoom back down to earth from atop the coolest of boards. Snow tubing is also a fun thrill ride, so be sure to visit the designated tubing zone if you've always wanted to try this giggle-inducing activity.
In addition to gear rental shops and ski schools, you'll also have access to a nursery here at Camelback. This means that the munchkins of the group will stay happy and supervised while the big kids and adults are enjoying the snowy landscape. You'll find everything to be set up for your convenience here, so feel free to leave your cares behind.

When you're not barreling your way through the snow drifts, you'll find the surrounding offerings of Camelback to be just as engaging as your outdoor adventures. Plenty of restaurants will entice you to break your normal-day diet, and a number of outlet stores and specialty shops will certainly turn up a few great souvenirs. Whether you're traveling with a big group or just that special someone, the available options will be more than acceptable.
One factor you might not have considered yet is lodging. You'd like to stay somewhere close to the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes, but don't want to give up your fiercely guarded privacy. Vacation is about seeing new things and new people, of course, but at the end of the day you'd like a quiet space to enjoy your companions without any annoying distractions.

If this is the case, then consider renting a vacation home for your Camelback trip. You'll find dozens of options to choose from, as you're not the only one who values peace and quiet along with your traveling. A wooden-floored, rustically decorated cabin near all the hotspots you'll want to visit sounds like a good start, and the master bedroom with private deck makes it all the more appealing. A large kitchen and eating area will invite family bonding, and a game room with a poker table and foosball will be practically too fun to be true.
It'll be a nice change of pace to let everyone do their own thing on their own schedule after a long day out in the invigorating weather. Whether that entails taking a nap in the back bedroom, watching a movie on the couch, or taking a steamy bubble bath, everyone in your group will be in a good mood. Don't be surprised if at the end of the night you all end up back together again in the family room, perhaps in front of a roaring fire with cups of cocoa in hand.

Many rentals welcome long-term visitors, so if you've been planning to really get away from civilization for a while, this would be a smart choice. And, taking into consideration current gas prices, some property owners are even offering discounts to counterbalance the high cost of traveling.
All in all, renting a vacation property will be a unique experience for you and yours, so don't hesitate to go online to reserve a Camelback Vacation Rental to elevate your next vacation to higher ground.

Poconos Resorts

A Review of Popular Poconos Resorts

Where to stay before planning your vacation to the Poconos, will be the first thing on your mind. Resorts offer the comfort of a home away from home -- that's why so many people choose to stay there.
The legacy of Poconos resorts commenced in 1945 when Rudolf Von Hoevenberg opened ""The Farm on the Hill,"" a resort for honeymooners. Soon, other honeymoon resort owners followed and by the 1950's, resorts in the Poconos became a lucrative business. There are so many resorts to choose from that one would have to make their decision carefully to ensure that it caters to the needs of all involved.
Resorts at the Poconos are available for both family and couples only. For couples, resorts like Caesar's Resorts and Paradise Stream are just some of the places that are poised to make your stay a memorable one. Families on the other hand can put together reunions at one of these family-oriented resorts:
Fernwood Resort
Situated in Bushkill, Pennsylvania, this resort is equipped with spacious and classy looking rooms with choices of a villa, 1 or 2 bedrooms, traditional suite and even a studio. Rooms start at $129 in the mid-week and can go up to $299 per night.
Among the amenities one can enjoy here include the fitness centre, indoor and outdoor pools, basketball, tennis and nature trails. The above-mentioned activities are included in your room charge.
Skytop Lodge
Located on 5,500 acres, this resort has standard rooms and mini suites and cottages. Nature programs are included on weekends with a naturalist and other activities are indoor swimming, picnics and trout fishing.
Woodlock Pines Resort
Hawley, Pennsylvania in the Northern Pocono Mountains is the home of Woodlock Pine Resorts, a 250-acre resort that sits on a private lake. Families can enjoy lake activities, kids programs, water skiing, a nightclub, pools, arcade, and miniature golf.

Centuries-old farms and other buildings are still in use today. Take in a flea market or arts and crafts fair.

Some of the vacation areas in the Pocono Mountains are Arrowhead Lakes, Big Boulder Lake, Camelot Forest, Lake Harmony, Lake Harmony Estates, Lake Naomi, Pocono Lake, Snow Ridge Village, Towamensing Trails and Jim Thorpe. If you need a little more excitement, there is usually a demolition derby or tractor pull to break up the day or evening, and there is always something good to eat nearby. Need something a little more upscale? Ski races, wine-tastings, art workshops, music festivals and interesting lectures can be found here also. It's your vacation, do whatever you want.

No one from your book club back home needs to know you went to a tractor pull, and no one at the tractor pull needs to know you are attending a an author's lecture tomorrow. Of course, you can ski, hike, fish and just generally enjoy the region, with its long rivers, big lakes rocky plateaus and friendly towns, all welcoming you to stay a while. While communities here aim to keep their historic heritage alive, your Poconos vacation rental will only serve to enhance your visit while you discover the historic sites and refresh to the soft and soothing air of this sentimental region.

Resorts in The Poconos

How to Find Cheap Resorts in the Poconos

There are many fun things to do in the Poconos like skiing and snowboarding, horseback riding, canoeing, or whitewater rafting. Choosing which resort you'll stay in will depend on whether you'll be traveling a couple or a family. What you like to do will play a large part in your decision making, too.
Before you begin your search for cheap resorts in the Poconos, the first thing you'll want to do is assess your budget.

Go to the Internet and begin your search.
Establish a price range and look for resorts with rates that stay within your range. Take into account that weekend rates tend to run a little higher than midweek rates. If packages are available during the time you're planning to stay and could save you some money, take advantage of the one that meets your needs.
Accept that you may have to sacrifice certain amenities in order to get the better rates.
If you decide to go through a site like Kayak.com, check with the resort you choose to find out if they will allow you to cancel reservations made through an outside vendor. Some won't.

Some resorts, like the Mountain Laurel Resort & Spa, can charge $115 per night for a midweek stay and $135 per night for a weekend visit. If you take advantage of their Splash and Stay package and travel in a group of four or more, you could end up paying as little as $84.50 per night for a suite. If that's cheap for you, then you might want to start making your reservations early. If your budget can't support a stay at the Mountain Laurel Resort & Spa, you might want to try Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort. Depending on what time of year you visit and whether you stay during the week or over the weekend, you could pay as little as $67 per night.

Like most resorts, Ehrhardt's offers a variety of packages, such as the Valentine's Package or the St. Patrick's Package. These packages are far from cheap, though, your best bet to save money will be to go with the straight, per night room rates. Remember to avoid couples only resorts if you plan on traveling as a family.

You are more likely to find cheap hotels in the Poconos than you are to find cheap resorts. The Budget Inn and Suites, for example charges under $80 per night and they offer special packages like their Bed and Breakfast package or the Family Package or the Ski and Stay Package. With the Family Package, you could pay as little as $20.93 per person on a non-holiday, non-weekend trip.
The Poconos have several resorts that cater to a variety of tastes. Doing a little research may indeed help you find some cheap resorts in the Poconos.

You can find the best Poconos vacations online by visiting http://www.poconosresortsvacations.com/poconos-vacations, a popular vacation website that is specialized in Poconos and Poconos resorts.

Bushkill Falls

Bushkill Falls Information and Review

Bushkill Falls, Often referred to as the "Niagara of Pennsylvania," is a series of eight waterfalls  and is one of Pennsylvania's most scenic attractions.  It is nestled in the wooded Pocono Mountains and is accessible through hiking trails.  This picturesque area is most impressive with views of the waterfalls and wooded areas.
Bushkill Falls provides people of all ages  with an  opportunity to experience the beauty of Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains.   A variety of trails and bridges provide you with numerous views of all eight waterfalls.  There are 4 trails and each varies in length and difficulty. To give an example the green trail takes about 15 minutes to walk while the red trail is almost 2 miles will take about 2 hours and you will see all 8 falls.  It is however only a short distance to viewing the towering 100 ft Main Falls from the primary observation deck.

The trails are designed to appeal to different skill levels and ages.  The trails are well marked and they are kept in good condition. There are however many steep stairs, and bridges especially around the falls. There are many benches on the trails for those who need to rest.  The shorter trails are suggested for those hiking with small children while longer trails would be more intermediate level and better for older children.

If you are concerned about your abilities or hiking with small children then talk to them and they will  advise as to the trail that best suits you.  No matter which trail you choose you will enjoy the natural mountain beauty.

Make sure you wear comfortable sneakers or hiking boots to walk the natural pathways.  Don't forget your camera and/or video camera you will want pictures of the beautiful scenery.  You might also want to consider binoculars.

Note that no food or drinks (other than water) are permitted on the trails.  So plan your lunch accordingly.  There are many locations including pavilions and groves with open grills to have a picnic.

There is ample free parking.

Be sure to investigate the Pennsylvania Wildlife Museum, located at the entrance of Bushkill Falls, which features fascinating displays about the area's indigenous wildlife and/or the Native American Exhibit.  You can also fish Twin Lakes, take a paddle-boat rides, enjoy a round of miniature golf or have the kids go mining for gems at The Bushkill Falls Mining Co.

Be sure to stop in one of the variety of gift shops to get an Adventure Map for the kids. It keeps them interested in their surroundings because as they pass landmarks on the trail that are marked on the map they can punch them out on their card.  If you are hungry stop at the Fudge Kitchen, snack bar or Ice Cream Shop.

pocono hotels

Choosing Honeymoon Packages to Poconos

As always, you want to look at your budget before you begin any planning. Once you know how much you have to spend on your Poconos honeymoon package, you'll want to consider
  • How long do you plan to stay?
  • Do want a couples only resort or one that's open to everyone?
  • How much time will you spend at the resort?
  • How close are the resort hotels to activities?
  • What activities do you and your betrothed both enjoy?
Whether you plan to spend your honeymoon in the Poconos during the winter or the summer, make sure you schedule your visit, at least, two months in advance. The earlier you reserve your room, the better your chance of saving money on the rates. Planning early also increases your odds of staying where you want, when you want and for as long as you want.
If you like the idea of staying in a resort hotel that only allows couples, you'll want to look at the Cove Haven Entertainment Resorts: Cove Haven, Paradise Stream and Pocono Palace.
Cove Haven Entertainment resorts, have a variety of packages for couples in love. According to their website, all packages are all-inclusive. Couples can choose themed packages, such as the three day/two night Garden of Eden Apple Suite, which is offered at all three resorts. For their money, honeymooners can enjoy free breakfast in bed every day of their stay, soak together in a heated, heart-shaped whirlpool bath in their room and sleep on a king sized bed. That's just one of many different packages. Not all packages are offered at all three resorts, and some packages are less expensive than others, such as the Club Lodge Suite - Lake View at the Pocono Palace, which, if reserved in January 2011 for weekend honeymoon in June 2001, would cost about $730, taxes and fees included.
Because they are all part of one family of resorts, couples who really want to get the most out of their Poconos honeymoon packages will take advantage of the "Key Around Club." With the Key Around Club, couples can enjoy events at all three resorts. For example, the Paradise Stream Resort offers discounts on activities like canoeing, kayaking, stock car driving and white water rafting. At Pocono Palace, you could go ballroom dancing, snow tubing or ice skating. You're automatically enrolled in the Key Around Club the moment you sign in. Of course, there are some restrictions. Do as much research as you can on the website before you schedule your honeymoon. And don't think that you have to commit to staying for a weekend. If you want to stay for a week or two, that's fine, too. Just keep in mind that longer you stay, the more you'll have to pay.
You don't have to stay in a couples only resort hotel, but they are the only ones that tailor their resort experiences to couples in love. Although other resorts have special packages for couples, they don't offer amenities like in-room whirlpool baths that are shaped like giant champagne glasses or in-room heated swimming pools.
Believe it or not, the Poconos are considered "The Honeymoon Capital of the World." This may or may not be true, but if you plan to get a Poconos honeymoon package, seriously consider staying in a couples only resort hotel.
You can find the best Poconos cabin rentals online by visiting http://www.poconosresortsvacations.com/poconos-cabin-rentals, a popular vacation website that is specialized in Poconos vacations.

Poconos Pennsylvania

Romantic Escapes in the Poconos Pennsylvania

Romantic escapes in the Poconos are a great choice if you live on the East Coast and are looking to throw a little kindling on the fire of your love affair.

Romantic Escapes in the Poconos

Sometimes, you don't want to have a beach escape for your romantic trip. If you enjoy the quiet setting of a wooded area, or the beautiful vistas that staying on a mountain can provide, there are many places in the United States that can fill your needs. If you are looking to stay in one of the most romantic and well-known romantic areas that are situated in the mountains, however, you only really have one choice: the Poconos. Romantic escapes in the Poconos have been popular for generations, and there's a good reason why.

The Poconos is a resort area that is located in northeastern Pennsylvania. Named for the mountains that it encompasses, the Poconos Mountains (which are actually a plateau), this area is made up of Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne Counties in Pennsylvania. Popular as an area that is easily reachable from New Jersey, Philadelphia and New York City, people have been coming to the Poconos for years to enjoy the many outdoor activities that are available here. Skiing is also a big industry in the Poconos, and it is estimated that over 80% of all of the resorts located in Pennsylvania are actually in this region.

Romantic escapes in the Poconos usually take place at resorts specifically aimed at honeymooners and those seeking romance. The biggest resort chain that is situated here and caters to romantics is the Caesars Pocono Resorts - there are four, named Cove Haven, Paradise Stream, Pocono Palace and Brookdale. Named some of the world's most romantic resorts, the Caesars Pocono Resorts offer all-inclusive honeymoon and other romance packages for couples who want a romantic retreat away from it all. All of the resorts except for Brookdale are couples only (no children allowed).

The Caesars Pocono Resorts specializes in romance - so the rooms here are bound to be extra special. You can choose from themed rooms, such as the Garden of Eden Suite, which includes a heart shaped tub as well as other sensual delights, or one of the champagne tower rooms. These rooms house hot tubs that are shaped like champagne glasses, and are built especially for two. Most of the rooms include fireplaces, as well as round beds and pools and grottos. There are standard rooms as well, for couples who don't want as much of a themed room. Lodgings in the Pocono Resort

The Poconos are located in northeastern Pennsylvania and include 2400 square miles of mountains and valleys covering. The Poconos lodgings offer many different amenities and have long been a favorite vacation choice. Perhaps the best known place to stay in the Poconos are the Caesar's family of hotels. These hotels are all-inclusive and cater to different populations. Three of the four Caesar's locations in the Pocono Mountains are exclusively for couples' getaways. Each offers gourmet multi-course dinners as well as more casual earlier meals. One of the adult only choices is the Cove Haven Resort. Cove Haven is situated on a secluded mountain lake, Lake Wallenpaupack.

Meals are part of the package and are served in a down-home café setting or a formal dining room. Cove Haven lodging offers sports and fitness, swimming, spa services, theme nights, a nightclub, several cocktail lounges, and water sports. Paradise Stream is another Caesar's lodging that caters exclusively to couples. Similar in amenities to those stated above, Paradise Stream also offers private fireplaces and swimming pools as well as sports such as horseback riding, archery, tennis, fishing, cycling, paddleboats, and hiking. The final of the three couple's lodging is Pocono Palace. The Pocono Palace has a country-club feel in the public areas, and fantasy suites for the couple's private space. In addition to the amenities listed above, the Pocono Palace also offers a 9-hole golf course, roller-skating, miniature golf, and winter sport facilities.

Brookdale-on-the-Lake is the family destination offered through Caesar's lodgings in the Poconos. Popular kids' activities and theme weeks are offered all year. Sports options include rollerblading, biking, paddleboats, poolside movie nights, and snow activities. For all the Caesar's hotels call 877.822.3333.
Another family friendly spot in the Poconos is the Chestnut Grove Resort. This resort is like something out of the 1950's or 1960's or Dirty Dancing. There are kids' activities, campfires, sing-alongs, wienie roasts, and 20 acres of running room. Softball, lawn bowling, fishing, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and sports tournaments are the center of fun as well as indoor and outdoor pools. For reservations, call 570-839-3656.

The Deerfield Spa is more adult-oriented. At the Deerfield Spa in the Poconos, visitors will select a fitness and relaxation regime. Surrounded by the beautiful mountains, you will be guided through the process of casting off the stress of the modern world. For this type of Poconos lodging experience, call 800-852-4494.
The list of places to stay in the Poconos offers choices no matter what type of vacation you are searching for. Visitors should decide what they want, and then will be able to select a destination to meet those needs.

Poconos Resort

A Review of Popular Poconos Resorts

As you look at the various Poconos resorts, consider what you will need for your vacation. If you're traveling as a couple, then a resort, like Pocono Palace, which is for couples only, might be a nice place for you to stay. Like most resorts, they offer all-inclusive vacation packages, like their special Three days/two nights for $599 (good from January to May 2011). These resorts aren't only great for couples. They have amenities that appeal to adults and children alike.

When looking at Poconos resorts, you'll want to take activities and amenities into consideration. This is of particular importance if you plan to book an all-inclusive vacation package. Often activities are included. You don't want to choose a vacation package that offers activities that are of little or no interest to you or your family.

Poconos resorts often have restaurants and bars on site, plus amenities like the live entertainment, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools, and Game Zone Interactive Play Center found at the Fernwood Hotel and Resort. Do you like to gamble? The Mount Airy Casino Resort is the place for you.
Fernwood and Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort are good choices for parents traveling with children. Skytop Lodge might appeal more to older children. Call each resort and ask. That's the only way to know what you're going to find once you get there.

If money is a concern, there are some Poconos resorts, like Erhardt's Waterfront Resort, that have reasonable rates. Shop around to find what's best for you. Vacation packages aren't always money savers, so do the math before you start making reservations.

Honeymooning in the Poconos

In 1945, a soldier named Rudolf Von Hoevenberg opened the first resort for honeymooners -- called "The Farm on the Hill". He started a trend for many more honeymoon-type resort entrepreneurs to open business and ""couples only"" resorts were born. Costs of these resorts range from $250 to $600 per night. But those who have experienced a Poconos honeymoon will tell you that it is money well spent. You end up paying for a resort equipped with heart-shaped bathtubs and whirlpools, log fireplace and round, king-sized beds.
Some prices are inclusive of two meals, activities and entertainment. The most well known resort is Caesars Pocono Resort.

Operating in the Poconos for the last 47 years, the entranceway of Caesars has welcomed over 18,000 honeymoon couples. This luxurious establishment has four levels of pleasure waiting for you and your loved one. And they go all-out to pamper couples: dry sauna, steam shower, massage table with heat lamp, and breakfast in bed. A honeymoon concierge is also on hand at the resort to give you information that will make your vacation run more smoothly. They include transportation and can assist with information regarding on- and off-resort activities.

Some resorts offer activities such as water-skiing, golf, indoor and outdoor tennis, paddle boating, snow skiing and snowmobiling. You can explore your own activities away from the resort. After all, in the Poconos, there is really never a dull moment. Go sailing, or take a walk on one of the lovely beaches. Have a romantic picnic in the park or by the lake. Whatever you do, ensure that you get back to your love den just in time for nightly entertainment, which some resorts include as part of your all-inclusive package.

Pocono Resorts

Pocono Resorts Honeymoon Packages

Poconos Vacations

There's Nothing Like a Poconos Vacations!

The first tourists who occupied riverside houses as far back as the 1800s experienced this ultimate relaxation. Situated in Pennsylvania, getting there is quite easy since it's accessible from major cities like New York, New Jersey, Boston and Philadelphia.
From hopeless romantics, to retirees, family and friends, those who visit the Poconos will agree that it is habit forming. The woodlands and mountains which frame picturesque lakes, rivers and enticing waterfalls as you drive by, seem to serve as the perfect welcome mat for all the fun which lies ahead.
Lovers of the sea won't get enough of canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing, fishing and rafting, Poconos-style. And if you feel at one with nature, you can hike on one of the challenging trails or experience dirt/ mountain biking.
There are over 30 state and national parks to visit and golf can be enjoyed at one of the 60-plus locations. Take a walk down memory lane by visiting historical museums and parks and even preserve a picture of some of the Poconos' historical railroads for posterity. The Poconos are the home of quaint galleries, NASCAR racing, outlet shopping and hitting the slopes for some intense skiing action.
Skiing is no doubt synonymous with the Poconos. In 1946, Big Boulder became the first commercial ski area opened in Pennsylvania. Ten years later, the process of man-made snow was patented, perfected and the Pocono Mountains were introduced as a ski destination in the Big Boulder Ski area. Some of the hot skiing spots during winter include Alpine Mountain, Shawnee, Blue Mountain, Camelback and Jack Frost to name a few, with over 20 trails to choose from.
